Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will discuss the situation surrounding Russia-Ukraine negotiations during Fidan's working visit to Moscow on May 25-27, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced.
The high-level diplomatic meeting comes as both countries seek to address regional security challenges and bilateral cooperation amid ongoing international tensions.
The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that the ministers will address current developments in multiple regions during their upcoming talks.
"During the upcoming meeting, the ministers will discuss the current situation in the South Caucasus, Libya, Syria, and the Black Sea region. They will conduct a thorough exchange of opinions on the development of the situation after the Russian-Ukrainian negotiations in Istanbul. The topic of safe navigation in the Black Sea will be addressed," the ministry indicated.
The meeting represents continued diplomatic engagement between Russia and Türkiye on regional security matters and conflict resolution efforts.
No information has been received yet about the location and timing of a possible new round of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, an informed source told the Russian media outlet RIA Novosti on Sunday.
"There is no information about the possible venue or timing of negotiations yet," the source said.
Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan previously stated that a principled agreement was reached for a new round of negotiations.
Russian President Vladimir Putin earlier proposed that Ukraine resume direct negotiations without preconditions in Istanbul on May 15.
The Russian delegation arrived in Istanbul on May 15, but there were no contacts between representatives of the two countries that day. The meeting took place the next day and lasted almost two hours.
As stated by Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov, the goal of the proposed negotiations with Ukraine is to eliminate the root causes of the conflict and ensure Russia's interests.
The Russian side expressed readiness to continue negotiations after the meeting with the Ukrainian delegation in Istanbul.
The ministers will also discuss bilateral trade and economic cooperation.
"A separate topic will be bilateral trade-economic cooperation in the difficult conditions of constant pressure from the West. The ministers will focus on issues of creating a favorable environment for improving banking services and diversifying trade between the countries," the ministry stated.
The discussions will address the formation of favorable conditions for enhanced banking services and trade diversification between the two nations.
The Russian foreign ministry emphasized that Moscow and Ankara make significant contributions to the normalization process in Syria.
"Sergey Lavrov and Hakan Fidan will focus on assisting the new Syrian authorities in further establishing inclusive political dialogue in the country and returning socio-economic life to a peaceful course."
"Good experience of cooperation in the Libyan direction has been accumulated. We are committed to continuing interdepartmental contacts with Turkish colleagues on Libya," the ministry emphasized.
Fidan will visit Moscow on a working visit from May 25-27 at the invitation of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to participate in negotiations on a wide range of bilateral and international agenda issues.
