Authorities in Russia-annexed Crimea will impose power outages across the peninsula following Ukrainian attacks on energy infrastructure, the Russian-appointed governor said Thursday, days after strikes already cut power to the peninsula's largest city.

"Energy infrastructure has been damaged by hostile attacks. Consequently, temporary power outages will be implemented across Crimea," Moscow-installed governor Sergey Aksyonov said in a post on Telegram.

Outage schedules may not be followed precisely

In a fuller statement on Telegram, Aksyonov addressed residents directly, acknowledging ongoing concerns over fuel shortages and power supply.

"Dear Crimeans, I am reading your messages and comments on social media, and I understand and share your concern and worry about the current situation," he wrote.

"The problem of fuel shortages in our region remains acute, but both federal and regional authorities are working to resolve it. For security reasons, it is not possible to publicly disclose the measures being taken. But as soon as the situation begins to improve, you will notice it immediately," Aksyonov noted.

On the power cuts, Aksyonov said, "Energy infrastructure has been damaged by enemy attacks, and as a result, temporary power outages will be carried out across the entire territory of Crimea.

At this stage, exact outage schedules may not be followed precisely, due to the operational situation, which is constantly changing. Outages will be carried out selectively and as needed. I ask that you treat this with understanding."

He added that food security in the region remained "fully ensured" and that necessary medications were available.

"I call on Crimeans not to believe rumors and not to spread them, not to give in to emotion, but to be guided by common sense," Aksyonov said.

"I remind you that the enemy's main goal is to intimidate, to sow panic, including through fakes and information attacks. I will note here that the measures meant to ensure security against any ground or other actions have been fully implemented.

I thank Crimeans for their unity and mutual support. Over the past years, we have overcome many trials, and we will get through these as well," he concluded.
