Thailand's Ambassador to Türkiye, Apirat Sugandhabhirom, described Türkiye-Thailand's relations as robust and friendly during a recent interview at the Foreign Policy Institute.
Reflecting on over six decades of diplomatic ties, he noted, "We are already very good friends at the bilateral level."
Ambassador Sugandhabhirom highlighted the historical roots of the relationship, dating back to interactions between the Ottoman Empire and the Kingdom of Siam, which further bolster today's cooperation.
Ambassador Sugandhabhirom emphasized the strong trade connections between the two nations, pointing out mutual investments:
"There is immense potential for further cooperation, and we hope to sustain and expand our partnerships," he noted.
The ambassador expressed interest in Türkiye's defense industry, encouraging Thailand's military officials to explore partnership opportunities.
He praised Turkish defense products for their efficiency, advanced technology and affordability, suggesting they could appeal to Thailand's strategic needs.

As a founding member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Thailand sees Türkiye as a potential dialogue partner.
Ambassador Sugandhabhirom expressed optimism, saying, "I truly believe Türkiye will one day be accepted as a dialogue partner by ASEAN."
He also emphasized that Türkiye’s efforts to strengthen relations with ASEAN align with its broader foreign policy goals, including its engagement with BRICS and other global platforms.
