U.S. President Donald Trump said Thursday that his talks at the White House with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva “went very well,” saying the meeting covered several issues, including trade and tariffs.
Trump described Lula as “the very dynamic President of Brazil” in a post on Truth Social after the meeting.
“We discussed many topics, including Trade and, specifically, Tariffs. The meeting went very well,” Trump said.
The meeting between Trump and Lula, who are ideological opposites, was held at the White House.
Trump said trade was among the topics discussed, with tariffs receiving specific attention.
The meeting had been expected to be open to the media but was ultimately held behind closed doors.
Trump did not provide further details on the substance of the tariff discussions in his post.
Trump said representatives from both sides are scheduled to meet to discuss “certain key elements.”
He also said additional meetings would be scheduled over the coming months if necessary.
“Additional meetings will be scheduled over the coming months, as necessary,” Trump said.
