Turkish intel chief meets Libya leaders to discuss stability, crash probe

Turkish National Intelligence Organization (MIT) chief Ibrahim Kalin met with Libya's top leaders in Tripoli on Thursday, briefing them on the investigation into the December plane crash that killed Libya's chief of general staff and discussing regional stability amid ongoing challenges.

Kalin met with Presidential Council Chairman Mohamed al-Menfi at the council's headquarters, where he provided an update on the latest developments in the investigation into the crash of the plane carrying Libyan Chief of General Staff General Muhammed Ali al-Haddad.

The Libyan military delegation's plane crashed in Ankara on Dec. 23, 2025. Kalin briefed Menfi within the framework of ongoing coordination between the two countries.

According to the Presidential Council's statement, Kalin conveyed greetings from President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Menfi during the meeting.

Libya's stability 'fundamental' for regional security

Both sides emphasized that Libya's stability is a fundamental element for regional security and stressed the importance of continued consultations between Türkiye and Libya to support it.

The meeting addressed Turkish-Libyan relations as well as local and regional developments, the Presidential Council said.

Meeting with Prime Minister Dbeibah

Kalin also held talks with Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, according to a statement from Libya's Government of National Unity.

The meeting addressed issues of mutual interest and recent local and regional developments.

"The two sides emphasized the importance of strengthening coordinated international efforts to support Libya's political process," the statement said.
