UFC heavyweight Josh Hokit got a lot of attention Sunday night after making an unexpected comment about former U.S. first lady Michelle Obama at the end of a post-fight interview during the UFC Freedom 250 event on the White House lawn in Washington, D.C.
After defeating fellow heavyweight Derrick Lewis in the main event, Hokit was interviewed by veteran broadcaster Joe Rogan. The live broadcast on Paramount+ ended with Hokit speaking directly to the crowd.
"Michelle Obama is a man. Am I right, America?" Hokit said, closing out the interview.
Rogan did not respond to the comment and ended the segment by saying, "Ladies and gentlemen, Josh Hokit," before moving on.
Video of the moment quickly spread on social media, showing the crowd reacting in different ways. Some people laughed, while others looked surprised by the remark.
The event brought a high-profile audience to the White House grounds. Attendees included U.S. President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump, UFC CEO Dana White, TKO Group Holdings CEO and Executive Chairman Ari Emanuel, whose company owns the UFC, Vice President JD Vance, Meta founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg, and Ivanka Trump.
Comedians Shane Gillis and Tony Hinchcliffe, country singer Alexis Wilkins, Crypto.com CEO Kris Marszalek, and British boxer Tyson Fury were also there.
The fight card was shown only on Paramount+. In recent months, the platform's parent company has faced criticism after a legal settlement with President Trump over a "60 Minutes" interview.
Several well-known journalists have also left the CBS news program, including anchor Scott Pelley and longtime executive producer Tanya Simon.
Paramount+ and UFC representatives did not make any public statements about Hokit's remarks right after the event. Michelle Obama's office also did not respond to requests for comment before publication.
The UFC Freedom 250 was one of the first major sporting events held at the White House grounds during the current administration.
