Ukraine has “creative ideas” to accelerate stalled peace negotiations with Russia and is waiting for a U.S. negotiating delegation to visit Kyiv, Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said.

Sybiha made the remarks after talks with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul in Kyiv, where the two ministers discussed recent developments in the Russia-Ukraine war.

Sybiha said negotiations aimed at ending the war were currently not moving forward and called for more active U.S. involvement.

“Unfortunately, we are currently on hold,” he said.

Kyiv awaits US negotiating team

Sybiha said Ukraine expected a U.S. negotiating delegation to come to Kyiv and was prepared to present different proposals to give the process new momentum.

“Ukraine also has various ideas, including creative ideas, to maximize the momentum of this process,” he said.

He argued that Europe should also play an active role at the negotiating table.

Sybiha said there was “almost only one obstacle” preventing progress, identifying Russian President Vladimir Putin.

During the meeting, Sybiha thanked Wadephul for Germany’s assistance to Ukraine since the start of the war.

He said German support had reached €65 billion ($75.95 billion) since the conflict began.
