North Korean missile launchers deployed in Russia would become legitimate targets for Ukrainian forces if they were used to strike Ukraine, Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha said Wednesday.
“If North Korean missile systems are deployed on the territory of the Russian Federation, they will become legitimate targets for the Ukrainian military,” Sybiha said during a joint news conference in Kyiv with Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braze.
Sybiha’s remarks came after reports in U.S. media that a North Korean missile unit had begun deploying in Russia’s Voronezh region.
The reports cited Andriy Chernyak, an official with Ukrainian military intelligence.
The alleged deployment has not been independently verified, and neither Russia nor North Korea has publicly confirmed the reports.
Moscow and Pyongyang have described their expanding military cooperation as consistent with bilateral agreements between the two countries.
Ukraine and its Western partners, however, have criticized the involvement of North Korean troops and weapons in the conflict.
