U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio reportedly told his French counterpart Jean-Noel Barrot that Washington is prepared to engage in direct communication with Iran "at any moment," amid rising concerns over Tehran's nuclear and ballistic programs.
According to national media citing an unnamed French diplomatic source, the two ministers held a late-night phone call in which they discussed Iran's nuclear issue.
During the conversation, both officials expressed concern over Iran’s nuclear and ballistic capabilities, describing them as a threat to both Israel and Europe.
The report claims that Rubio conveyed the U.S.’ readiness for direct talks with Iranian officials, signaling a possible shift toward renewed diplomatic engagement.
Barrot, in turn, briefed Rubio on the European approach ahead of a planned meeting in Geneva later Friday. The meeting will include the foreign ministers of France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Iran, and EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas.
The European representatives are expected to urge Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to rejoin the diplomatic process and resume negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program.
