Türkiye will begin offering 5G services across all 81 provinces starting April 1, marking a new phase in the country’s digital transformation, according to information compiled by Anadolu Agency.
The transition will be officially announced during a ceremony at the Presidential Complex in Ankara on March 31, attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Services will begin simultaneously in provincial centers before expanding across the country, with full nationwide coverage targeted within two years.
5G, the fifth generation of mobile communication technology, will offer significantly higher speeds, lower latency, and the ability to connect more devices at the same time compared to 4.5G.
Under new authorizations, operators will begin providing 5G services as of April 1, 2026, with licenses valid until December 31, 2042.
The service will initially launch in all 81 provincial centers. Authorities aim to extend coverage to all parts of Türkiye within two years.
Three operators will provide 5G services:
Infrastructure preparations include fiber investments, base station upgrades, and research and development projects launched in 2023 with 14 companies.
5G is expected to increase mobile internet speeds from megabit levels to gigabit speeds per second, delivering at least a tenfold improvement over current performance.
It will also reduce latency to milliseconds, enabling real-time communication between devices and systems.
The technology is expected to support a wide range of applications:
These capabilities will support the expansion of the Internet of Things, allowing more devices to operate simultaneously without disruption.
Users will need 5G-compatible devices to access the new service.
Türkiye currently has around 95 million mobile phones, of which approximately 32 million are 5G-compatible. This figure has increased from around 15 million a year ago and is expected to grow further after the rollout.
The transition also includes targets to increase the use of local technology. Initial requirements include at least 60% locally produced components and around 30% national communication technologies, with plans to increase these shares over time.
Officials expect 5G to accelerate digital transformation, improve service quality, and strengthen Türkiye’s competitiveness across multiple sectors.
