Amazon Web Services (AWS), the cloud computing arm of U.S. tech giant Amazon, has restored normal operations following a technical outage that disrupted access to numerous applications and services across the United States and Europe.
The outage, which began early Monday morning, was attributed to a Domain Name System (DNS) issue affecting AWS’s US-EAST-1 region in Northern Virginia. The disruption impacted a wide range of platforms, including Snapchat, Perplexity, Amazon, Fortnite, Lloyds Bank, the U.K. Revenue and Customs Agency, Duolingo, Prime Video, Vodafone, BT, Canva, Signal and Roblox.
In an update on its status page, AWS confirmed that the DNS issue had been fully resolved and that global services connected to the US-EAST-1 region had returned to normal. The company cautioned that some requests may still be temporarily limited and that elevated error rates could be seen until full system stabilization is achieved.
Data from the internet outage monitoring service Downdetector indicated that while users continue to report access issues with affected applications, the volume of reports has decreased significantly since the morning.
AWS stated that it continues to monitor operations closely to ensure complete recovery and to prevent further disruptions.
