Golf tourism activity in Antalya is gaining momentum this September, with the courses at the Belek Tourism Center drawing professional and amateur players from around the world, led by visitors from the United Kingdom.
The city, one of Europe's leading golf destinations, has hosted over 11 million foreign tourists since the beginning of the year. Belek, known for its climate, hotels and golf courses, has hosted international organizations such as the Turkish Airlines Open in previous years.
World-renowned golfers such as Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose and Lee Westwood have also competed in tournaments held in the region.
In the city, where summer tourism continues, activity at the golf courses has also increased in September.
Ercan Cek, Vice President of the Professional Hotel Managers Association (POYD) and a member of the Board of Directors of Taurus Golf Club, stated that Antalya was introduced to golf tourism in the 1990s.
Noting that the city has 15 golf courses and 10 golf hotels, Cek said the golf season begins in September and continues until May.
Explaining that golf tourism contributes to extending the tourism season and helps hotels, particularly in Belek, remain open for a longer period of the year, he said that various organizational and promotional efforts are continuing to increase Türkiye's share of the global golf market.
Emphasizing that Antalya is the city with the most golf courses in Türkiye, Cek noted that they host golfers from different countries around the world, saying, "We receive the most guests from the United Kingdom.''
''Other European countries follow. Germany in particular, then Eastern Europe. Recently, groups have also started coming from Russia. Interest in golf is also growing in Ukraine. Significant numbers have started coming from Russian-speaking countries," he added.
Noting that interest in golf is also increasing within Türkiye, Cek said that the tournaments held throughout the year by the Turkish Golf Federation are contributing to a growing number of domestic athletes.
