Malaysia-based integrated pulp and paper producer Arch Peninsula has agreed to acquire Turkish tissue maker Sanipak for $600 million from its parent Eczacibasi Holding, the Istanbul-based conglomerate said Monday.

Once cleared by Türkiye’s Competition Authority, the deal will transfer full ownership of Sanipak, which produces widely used brands such as Selpak and Solo in Türkiye, Eczacibasi stated in a disclosure.

Sanipak set for global push under new ownership

Eczacibasi said the agreement fits into its broader portfolio management strategy and is expected to create financial room for new investments. It also noted that the transaction is likely to support the international expansion of Sanipak’s brands.

"This step will allow Sanipak brands, born in Türkiye, to reach millions of new households worldwide," Chief Executive Officer Burak Sevilengul said, adding that the deal would also help unlock new investment opportunities for the group.

Sanipak Chief Executive Officer Bulent Kozlu said the company will continue its domestic operations while stepping up its regional expansion. Nishant Grover, co-chair of the Global Consumer Council at the investment group, said the acquisition fits its strategy of investing in market-leading brands with strong local positions.

Eczacibasi divests Türkiye’s first tissue brands

Selpak and Solo are among the earliest branded tissue products in Türkiye, both developed under Eczacibasi’s hygiene paper business, originally established as Ipek Kagit in 1969.

Selpak was introduced in the early 1970s as Türkiye’s first branded tissue paper product, helping shift consumer habits from reusable cloth to disposable hygiene paper. Over time, it became a widely recognized name in the category, often used as a generic term for tissue products in the local market.

Solo followed later, launched in 1978 as a more price-accessible alternative, positioned around value while maintaining product quality.

As of 2025, Sanipak, the company behind Selpak and Solo, remains one of Türkiye’s leading hygiene paper producers with a growing international footprint.

It reaches around seven to eight out of 10 households domestically and exports to more than 60 countries, holding about 40% of Türkiye’s tissue paper exports. Sanipak operates five production facilities and employs over 2,000 people, according to information based on the company's website.
