Major pipeline projects strengthen regional security

Erdogan emphasized the strategic importance of Türkiye-Azerbaijan energy cooperation amid recent global geopolitical developments.

"This cooperation, crowned with infrastructure investments such as the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan, Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum Pipelines and TANAP, not only benefits Türkiye and Azerbaijan but also continues to make important contributions to the energy security of the region and Europe," the president stated.

President Erdogan highlighted the recent opening of the Igdir-Nakhchivan pipeline in March as the latest example of their yearslong energy cooperation. "The commissioning of the line strengthened the energy supply security of the Nakhchivan region and made us stronger together," Erdogan noted.

Electricity interconnection projects advance

Addressing future energy infrastructure development, Erdogan emphasized electricity connectivity expansion. "Increasing the electricity connection between Türkiye and Azerbaijan is another project of strategic importance for us," he said.

The president announced that Türkiye-Nakhchivan and Türkiye-Georgia interconnection capacities also need to be increased, revealing the signing of a memorandum of understanding for green electricity transmission and trade cooperation.

"We signed the 'Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation for Green Electricity Transmission and Trade' to establish a new electricity interconnection line between Türkiye-Azerbaijan, Georgia and Bulgaria. We aim to complete this project, which constitutes another historic step in terms of energy security and prosperity of our region, as soon as possible," Erdogan stated.

Natural gas cooperation potential

President Erdogan stressed the significant potential for new natural gas projects between Türkiye and Azerbaijan.

"Azerbaijan, which has been supplying important volumes of gas to both Türkiye and Europe for many years, has a very important strategic role in the world energy market, especially in the current environment," he said.

The president outlined opportunities for expanding regional gas cooperation. "In the upcoming period, there is an important opportunity for us to develop our cooperation regarding the export of Turkmen gas through Azerbaijan and Türkiye in a way that will benefit all parties. This project will contribute both to the diversification of supply routes and to regional prosperity," Erdogan explained.

Erdogan expressed hope that the Baku Energy Week events will benefit the region, especially the two brotherly nations, Türkiye and Azerbaijan. He noted that relations between Azerbaijan and Türkiye continue with strong determination in the energy field as in all areas.

The president thanked those involved in organizing the energy week and extended greetings to all participants, including a special mention of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, with whom he recently met in Lachin.
