Facebook experienced a sudden outage on Sunday, with users worldwide reporting difficulty accessing their accounts and using basic platform features, according to outage-tracking service Downdetector.

Downdetector data showed reports of Facebook problems spiking sharply around 10:39 a.m. ET Sunday, climbing to 3,555 reports from a baseline of five just moments earlier.

Users reported difficulties accessing their accounts and using core features, with some also unable to upload photos and videos or send messages through Facebook's linked Messenger service.

The desktop version of the Meta social media network appears to be unavailable.

Users are being faced with the message: "Account Temporarily Unavailable. Your account is currently unavailable due to a site issue. We expect this to be resolved shortly. Please try again in a few minutes."

Problems were also reported in Canada, the United Kingdom, India, and Türkiye. Some users are reporting that Facebook is working on mobile devices but not on desktop browsers.

According to Downdetector, 62% of reported issues were related to the website, 21% involved mobile devices, and 11% involved the app.

Meta had not issued an official explanation for the outage as of the time of reporting.
