Türkiye’s Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek met with his Indonesian counterpart, Sri Mulyani Indrawati, in Ankara on Monday to discuss ways to strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries.
According to a statement released by the Turkish Ministry of Treasury and Finance, the meeting was held in line with the shared strategic vision expressed by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto during high-level meetings earlier this year. These meetings included the “High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council” session in Indonesia in February and a follow-up gathering in Ankara in April, where both leaders reiterated their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties.
During the latest ministerial meeting, the two sides exchanged views on global and regional macroeconomic developments and explored ways to enhance bilateral economic relations. The discussions also emphasized the importance of cooperation in several forward-looking sectors, including the defense industry, high value-added manufacturing, artificial intelligence, digital economy, and joint projects in third countries.
Both ministers agreed to convene more comprehensive talks either in Türkiye or Indonesia in the near future to advance these efforts.
In a separate development, Türkiye and Indonesia signed a memorandum of understanding in February aimed at enhancing trade relations. The agreement sets a target of increasing the bilateral trade volume to $10 billion, up from its current level of approximately $2 billion.
