Google’s Gemini artificial intelligence service faces renewed user complaints on Friday, Oct. 9, following a disruption a day earlier that left thousands of users reporting failed responses and error messages.
Google’s AI Studio status page had yet to confirm an outage at the time of reporting, while individual users continued to report errors.
According to Downdetector, an independent outage-tracking platform, users in the United States submitted 213 reports about Gemini problems as of 3:00 p.m. (GMT+3). AI generation issues accounted for 68% of reported problems, followed by app-related issues at 16% and website problems at 12%.
StatusGator, another independent monitoring platform, listed Gemini as operational at 10:13 a.m. UTC on Friday but recorded 616 user-submitted outage reports over the previous 24 hours. Users reported error messages, unresponsive servers and difficulties accessing the service.
A post published on Google’s Gemini Apps Community forum on Friday describes continued failures with Gemini 3.1 Pro, with the user saying the model does not respond even to simple prompts.
The user also reports that Gemini Flash and Flash-Lite continue to work normally, suggesting that the problem may be specific to the Pro model for some users.
According to Google's Gemini Apps Help Center, users experiencing problems are advised to try refreshing Gemini, starting a new chat or restarting their browser or mobile app. These steps may help resolve session-related issues but may not fix problems originating on Google's servers.
Users can also switch to another available Gemini model to check whether the issue is limited to Pro. A user on Google's Gemini Apps Community forum reports that Flash and Flash-Lite work normally while Gemini 3.1 Pro fails to respond even to simple prompts.
If the problem persists, users can report it through the Gemini app's Settings & help menu or consult Google's official Gemini Apps Help Center.
