Getir refutes allegations of unpaid rent amid multiple lawsuits in Manhattan
Grocery delivery app Getir, which acquired FreshDirect last year, is pushing back against allegations that it owes millions in unpaid rent across multiple locations in Manhattan. While several lawsuits have been filed against the Türkiye-based company, Getir claims the situation is being inaccurately portrayed.
In a statement addressing the lawsuits, Getir stated that “some of the information is outdated and does not reflect the current situation.” The company emphasized that payments have already been made in cases that were previously resolved and ongoing negotiations are taking place with a few remaining landlords.
Court filings show that Getir is facing claims of nearly $4 million in unpaid rent across nine locations since 2022. In some instances, the company allegedly left locations before their lease terms ended. In one Manhattan lawsuit, Getir is accused of owing more than $360,000 for a space at 114 W 26th St., with another suit citing $283,000 in unpaid rent for an East 40th St. location.
Getir, however, maintains that efforts are underway to settle outstanding disputes. While some cases, like the one in East Harlem involving $1.5 million in alleged rent obligations, have been resolved, eight lawsuits remain ongoing. The company affirmed that they are committed to addressing the issues and working toward a resolution with all parties involved.
