Google has quietly removed its experimental artificial intelligence-powered search feature “What People Suggest,” which surfaced health advice from online users, including forums such as Reddit and Quora, according to multiple reports.

The feature was introduced at Google’s Check Up health event in March 2025 and aimed to complement traditional medical information by providing insights drawn from people with similar lived experiences. Google described the initiative as a way to make it easier for users to access practical, first-person perspectives alongside expert guidance.

Removal part of broader search simplification amid scrutiny

Sources familiar with the decision confirmed to The Guardian that the feature has been deactivated, with one describing it as “dead.” A Google spokesperson stated that the removal was part of a “broader simplification” of the search results page and was not related to the feature’s safety or quality.

The discontinuation comes amid growing scrutiny of Google’s use of AI in delivering health information. Earlier this year, a Guardian investigation found that Google’s AI-generated medical summaries, known as AI Overviews, sometimes presented misleading or harmful content. In response, Google removed certain AI Overviews for some medical queries.

Healthcare professionals and technology analysts have warned that presenting unverified advice alongside authoritative sources can be misleading, particularly when users interpret AI-generated content as medical guidance. Despite retiring “What People Suggest,” Google affirmed its commitment to helping users find reliable health information, including first-person perspectives from trusted online forums.
