Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen International Airport has been ranked the fastest-growing airport in Europe, according to the March 2025 Air Traffic Report released by Airports Council International Europe (ACI Europe), a leading industry body representing over 500 airports across 55 countries.

According to ACI Europe, Sabiha Gokcen led the “Major Airports” category, which includes airports handling more than 40 million passengers annually. The airport posted a 9.6% increase in passenger traffic in March alone, surpassing other large European airports.

Passenger volume at the airport rose by 9% in the first quarter of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, placing it as the second-fastest growing airport on the continent during the quarter.

Key role in Türkiye’s aviation network

In a statement issued Tuesday, HEAS—the state-run company that operates Sabiha Gokcen—drew attention to the latest report and the airport's outstanding traffic performance.

"We would like to thank all our stakeholders and passengers who contributed to this success," HEAS added.

Sabiha Gokcen is Türkiye’s second-largest airport after Istanbul Airport and serves the Asian side of the city. Opened in 2001, the airport has steadily expanded its capacity and operations. In 2024, it served over 41 million passengers, marking a 13% increase from the previous year.
