The monthly cost of meeting the basic nutritional needs of a four-person household, known as the hunger threshold, in Türkiye rose to ₺27,289 ($639.08) in November 2025, according to the latest report from the Research Center for Class Studies (BISAM), affiliated with the Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions of Türkiye (DISK).
The broader poverty threshold, which includes essential non-food expenses such as housing, transportation, education, and health care, increased to ₺94,393 ($2,210.60), the report said.
The report also detailed the individual monthly food costs needed to meet dietary standards, varying by age and gender. A healthy food basket costs ₺7,626 for an adult male, while an adult female requires ₺7,248. For teenagers aged 15 to 18, the figure is ₺7,624, and for children aged 4 to 6, it amounts to ₺4,790, based on nutritional guidelines and price data collected across Türkiye.
In addition to family budgets, the report calculated the minimum amount a single adult must spend to maintain an acceptable living standard, including food, rent, transportation, and basic services. The individual living cost threshold stood at ₺43,882, indicating the level of income needed to meet basic needs for those living alone.
The country's largest union, the Confederation of Turkish Trade Unions (Turk-Is), previously reported that the hunger threshold stood at ₺29,828 in the same month, while the poverty threshold was recorded at ₺97,159, and the monthly cost of living for a single worker was calculated at ₺38,752.
In addition to these figures, the Istanbul Planning Agency (IPA) reported that the cost of living in Europe’s most populated city stood at ₺104,927 in October.
