U.S. chip titan Nvidia plans to pour around $150 billion a year into Taiwan as the U.S. chip giant deepens its reliance on the island’s semiconductor ecosystem and pushes ahead with a new headquarters expected to open in 2030.

Chief Executive Officer Jensen Huang unveiled the expansion plans on Wednesday in Taipei, calling Taiwan the "epicenter of the AI revolution" and predicting it would remain the world’s leading electronics manufacturing hub for years to come.

"Four years ago, five years ago, Nvidia was spending about $10, $15 billion a year in Taiwan," Huang remarked during a launch event for the company’s planned Taiwan headquarters. "Now, we’re spending $100 going to $150 billion in Taiwan each year."

Taiwan tightens grip on global AI supply chain

The new headquarters project is set to break ground later this year and aims to become operational in 2030, Huang noted, though he did not specify how long Nvidia intends to maintain the $150 billion annual investment pace.

Taiwan sits at the center of Nvidia’s AI supply chain through partners such as TSMC, which produces many of the company’s advanced chips, alongside server and hardware manufacturers including Foxconn, Wistron and Quanta Computer.

Huang described Taiwan as the place where "chips come and packaging comes" and where AI systems and supercomputers are built, highlighting the island’s growing importance as governments and companies worldwide ramp up spending on artificial intelligence infrastructure.

Nvidia rides AI boom as Taiwan draws billions more

The remarks came days after Nvidia posted record quarterly revenue of $81.6 billion, beating Wall Street expectations as demand for AI hardware continued to surge. Revenue jumped 85% from a year earlier, while net profit climbed to $58.3 billion from $18.8 billion in the same period last year.

Nvidia became the first company to hit a $5 trillion market valuation late last year, cementing its position at the center of the global AI boom. Huang told attendees in Taipei that he expects the company’s value to rise further over the next three to five years.

Taiwan’s role in the AI race continues to attract fresh investment from major U.S. technology firms. Last week, AMD announced plans to invest more than $10 billion in Taiwan’s AI sector to expand partnerships and increase advanced chip production capacity.
