Pakistan’s Consul General in Istanbul, Khawaja Khurram Naeem, called on Turkish companies to invest in Pakistan, saying the strong political relations between Türkiye and Pakistan should be reflected more in trade and investment.
Naeem spoke at the Global Excellence Awards Ceremony organized in Istanbul by the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI).
The event was attended by Istanbul Deputy Governor Mehmet Sulun, Naeem, Istanbul Chamber of Commerce Executive Board Member Munir Ustun, ICCI President Sardar Tahir Mehmood, and business representatives from both countries.
Around 40 awards were presented to prominent Pakistani business leaders from diverse sectors in recognition of their contributions to Pakistan’s economy, according to a press release.
The awards were presented by Sulun, Naeem, Mehmood, Ustun and ICCI Senior Vice President Tahir Ayub.
In his speech, Naeem thanked the institutions that contributed to the event, particularly ICCI and the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce.
He expressed hope that economic activities between Pakistan and Türkiye would continue more strongly.
Naeem said close relations between Türkiye and Pakistan are built on shared history, mutual trust and a common vision for economic prosperity.
He said the forum offered an important opportunity to further strengthen trade relations and investments between the two countries.
Pointing to Pakistan’s economic outlook, Naeem said the country’s economy is moving in a positive direction and that the government has taken important steps to encourage investment and create a more business-friendly environment.
He said Pakistan’s commitment to gradually reducing the corporate tax rate to a competitive level demonstrated its determination to encourage investment and economic growth.
Naeem said Pakistan has major potential, particularly in textiles and ready-to-wear.
He said the country has broad production capacity, ranging from cotton production to textile products, ready-to-wear, home textiles and technical textiles.
Naeem said intergovernmental cooperation between Türkiye and Pakistan should be complemented by strong business relations.
“Sustainable economic growth can only be achieved if the private sectors of both countries actively cooperate, carry out mutual visits and establish long-term partnerships,” he said.
He invited business representatives to use the forum to evaluate new opportunities, establish connections and develop partnerships based on mutual benefit.
Naeem said Pakistan would maintain its commitment to facilitating trade, investment and business activities.
He also expressed hope that the forum would pave the way for future cooperation between the business communities of the two countries.
In his inaugural address, ICCI President Sardar Tahir Mehmood highlighted the deep-rooted relations between Pakistan and Türkiye.
He reaffirmed ICCI’s determination to raise bilateral trade and investment to the ambitious level envisioned by the leadership of the two countries.
Mehmood said ICCI is positioning itself as a global business bridge for Pakistan by promoting exports, investment and international partnerships.
He said the chamber is working closely with the Government of Pakistan and relevant institutions to improve the ease of doing business and create a more competitive environment for the private sector.
Speaking as chief guest, Sulun congratulated the award recipients and praised ICCI for bringing Pakistan’s business community to Türkiye.

He said such initiatives provide an effective platform for strengthening people-to-people and business-to-business contacts.
Sulun said the event could open new avenues for trade, investment and joint ventures between Pakistan and Türkiye.
He said business leaders were not only conducting trade but also building bridges of friendship and understanding between the two countries.
Sulun thanked ICCI, Türkiye’s Ambassador to Pakistan Irfan Neziroglu, the Consulate General of Pakistan in Istanbul and all institutions that contributed to the event.
He also expressed hope that friendship and cooperation between Pakistan and Türkiye would continue to grow stronger and endure for generations.
The ceremony was described in the press release as a landmark ICCI initiative to project Pakistan’s business potential internationally and strengthen the foundations for sustained Pakistan-Türkiye trade, investment and business-to-business cooperation.
