Passengers traveling through Paris-Orly Airport continue to face major delays and cancellations for the second consecutive day, following a serious radar malfunction that crippled air traffic control systems over the weekend, French media reported on Monday.
On Sunday, the breakdown resulted in the cancellation of 130 flights, stranding thousands of travelers.
According to France 24, some passengers were already seated on aircraft when their departures were abruptly called off. While the French civil aviation authority DGAC referred to the issue as a general "malfunction," an airport source later clarified that the disruption stemmed from a “radar failure,” suggesting deeper technical trouble within France’s air navigation system.
To prevent further congestion, DGAC has instructed airlines to cut their Monday schedules by 15%, a move expected to cause continuing delays across Europe. Flights to major cities in Spain, Denmark, Saudi Arabia, Italy, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Ireland, and across France were either canceled or delayed on Sunday, and similar outcomes are likely throughout the day.
Paris-Orly Airport, which handled over 33 million passengers in 2023, operates as the second-largest aviation hub in the French capital after Charles de Gaulle Airport. The malfunction has disrupted key regional and international routes, complicating travel plans for both domestic and foreign passengers.
As of Monday morning, Turkish Airlines has not issued any formal statement regarding potential disruptions to its Paris-Orly operations.
It remains unclear whether any of its flights will be canceled or delayed as a result of the radar failure and the 15% traffic reduction request. Passengers planning to travel with Turkish Airlines to or from Paris-Orly could check their flight status via the airline’s official website or mobile app, where real-time updates are available.
