A company with ₺50,000 ($1,146.46) in capital has been established in Istanbul by U.S.-based social media platform Reddit, according to an official announcement published on Thursday, Feb. 6.
The registration confirms that Reddit will conduct its activities in Türkiye through a directly owned local legal entity.
According to the published notice, the company was incorporated under the name "Reddit Istanbul Online Platform Hizmetleri Limited Sirketi."
The company’s registered headquarters is listed in the Sisli district of Istanbul.
The registered fields of activity include internet advertising, digital marketing, software and application development, and online platform operations.
Within this scope, the company is set to provide or take part in advertising, sales, and marketing services, mainly focused on internet and digital advertising for Reddit’s global operations.
The registered activity areas also cover providing professional support to Reddit, Inc. and its affiliates on strategic, technical, financial, administrative, and regulatory matters tied to their global operations.
Since 2020, Türkiye has required foreign-based social network platforms with more than 1 million daily users from the country to appoint a local representative and comply with specific obligations under social media regulations.
Non-compliance triggers a graduated sanctions process, starting with administrative fines and potentially leading to advertising bans and bandwidth restrictions.
Despite Reddit’s large daily user base, its newly formed company structure in Türkiye has not yet qualified as the officially recognized representative entity required under these rules, according to information shared by the Freedom of Expression Association.
