President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Friday that renewables now account for 62% of Türkiye’s total installed electricity capacity, highlighting progress in wind and solar energy as well as afforestation efforts.
Speaking at the Introduction Program of the Cemre Fund, Erdogan said, “By expanding wind and solar power, we increased the share of renewables in total installed capacity to 62%.”
Erdogan said Türkiye ranks among the top countries globally in afforestation and is among those increasing forest assets the most in Europe.
“Today, the whole world stands on the threshold of serious tests regarding the environment and climate issues,” he said.
“Wherever we are in the world, it is neither possible nor right to ignore the climate and environmental crisis,” he added.
Describing environmental awareness as “a consciousness of homeland” and “a consciousness of building a future,” Erdogan said the government is making intense efforts to protect nature and leave a more livable, cleaner Türkiye to future generations.
Erdogan noted that Türkiye will host COP31 this year in Antalya and welcome nearly 200 countries.
“We will say ‘It is no longer time for words, but for action,’” he said.
He added that no political discrimination is pursued in environmental projects and that every step contributing to protecting nature is supported.
