Russia remains Türkiye's largest supplier of natural gas, oil and petroleum products, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said following talks with Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar in Istanbul.
"The partnership between Russia and Türkiye in the energy sector is of a truly strategic nature. Russia has been and remains a reliable supplier of energy resources to the Turkish market," Novak said, according to a statement from the Russian government cited by Russian media outlet TASS.
The meeting covered cooperation in gas, oil and peaceful nuclear energy sectors, with both sides discussing current projects and new opportunities for collaboration.
Novak highlighted the stable operation of major energy infrastructure connecting the two countries.
"The TurkStream and Blue Stream pipelines are functioning stably, and construction of Türkiye's first nuclear power plant, Akkuyu, continues, which is actually creating a new nuclear energy industry in Türkiye," Novak said.
"Cooperation in the fuel and energy complex is an important part of bilateral relations. Russia remains the largest supplier of natural gas, oil and petroleum products to Türkiye and reliably fulfills its obligations to Turkish partners," the Russian government said.
Turkish Energy Minister Bayraktar confirmed the productive nature of the discussions.
"I held a meeting in Istanbul with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak. We discussed the energy agenda in Türkiye-Russia relations," Bayraktar wrote on social media.
"We discussed the progress of our ongoing cooperation, particularly in natural gas and nuclear energy, and explored new opportunities for collaboration," he added.
Bayraktar emphasized the importance of continuing energy dialogue "with a focus on the healthy progress of ongoing projects and the development of new topics that will bring mutual benefit."
