Azerbaijan's state-run oil and gas company SOCAR has begun supplying natural gas to Germany and Austria via the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) as of January, the company announced on Friday.
According to SOCAR, deliveries through TAP, part of the 3,500-kilometer Southern Gas Corridor linking the Caspian region to Europe, now include substantial volumes destined for Southern and Central European markets.
The company noted that these additions extend the reach of Azerbaijani gas across the continent, raising the number of recipient countries to 16.
The development follows SOCAR’s signing of a long-term supply contract with German energy company SEFE (Securing Energy for Europe) in June 2025, laying the foundation for increased gas exports to Central Europe.
The agreement covers a 10-year supply period, with volumes set to ramp up annually to reach 1.5 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas.
SOCAR did not disclose the initial delivery volumes to Austria and Germany or further logistical details regarding the new shipments.
According to earlier data from the Azerbaijani Energy Ministry, total natural gas exports from Azerbaijan in 2025 stood at 25.2 bcm, matching the previous year’s figure.
Of this total, 12.8 bcm were delivered to Europe, 9.6 bcm to Türkiye—5.6 bcm of which moved through the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP)—2.3 bcm to Georgia, and 0.5 bcm to Syria.
The Southern Gas Corridor plays a pivotal role in diversifying Europe’s energy sources by reducing dependency on a single supplier. The TAP portion of the network connects with the Trans-Anatolian Pipeline at the Türkiye-Greece border and runs through Albania and the Adriatic Sea before reaching Italy.
