Türkiye's flag carrier, Turkish Airlines, signed a comprehensive codeshare agreement with Airlink, a regional carrier based in South Africa, aiming to expand travel routes across the region.
The agreement, which takes effect on Aug. 1, was formalized at a ceremony held at Airlink’s headquarters in Johannesburg on Friday, attended by senior executives from both airlines.
Under the terms of the partnership, Turkish Airlines will place its “TK” flight code on select Airlink-operated routes. This will allow passengers arriving in Johannesburg or Cape Town on Turkish Airlines flights from Istanbul to connect easily to numerous domestic and regional destinations in Southern Africa served by Airlink.
The integration aims to offer travelers more convenient and flexible travel options by combining Turkish Airlines' global flight network with Airlink’s extensive regional presence. The airlines noted that the agreement will facilitate travel on a single ticket, with streamlined itineraries and coordinated services.
Levent Konukcu, Turkish Airlines deputy general manager, said the carrier places high value on its partnership with Airlink as part of its efforts to strengthen connectivity in South Africa and surrounding regions. He noted that THY aims to further develop the collaboration to enhance the travel experience and also contribute to stronger cultural and tourism ties between the two countries.
Airlink CEO De Villiers Engelbrecht welcomed the agreement as a strategic opportunity to deepen cooperation with Turkish Airlines. He said the partnership boosts confidence in the Airlink brand and improves travel comfort for passengers of both airlines, granting them access to a wider network of destinations through a unified, high-standard service platform.
