Following a wave of military strikes launched by the Indian army against Pakistan late Tuesday, flag carrier Turkish Airlines and low-cost carrier Pegasus rerouted their flights from Istanbul to Islamabad and Karachi back to Türkiye via Iranian airspace after Pakistan closed its airspace due to security concerns.
According to the flight-tracking platform Flightradar, both aircraft returned to Türkiye late at night and were seen on radar approaching Istanbul.
Was Turkish Airlines and Pegasus flights to Pakistan cancelled?
As of Wednesday, neither airline has issued an official statement regarding the incident, and no formal cancellation notices have been published.
Late at night, the Indian army initiated military operations against Pakistan, including strikes on the Pakistan-administered region of Azad Kashmir. In response, Pakistan closed its airspace, resulting in significant flight disruptions.
Pakistan’s military reported that the death toll from the Indian missile strikes has risen to 26, with 46 others injured.
The strikes came as retaliation for a deadly terrorist attack on April 22 in India’s Pahalgam region, which killed 26 people. India responded on May 6 with missile strikes targeting Pakistani territory, including Azad Kashmir.
In the aftermath of the attacks, the Pakistani government declared a state of emergency in Punjab province.
