An international construction, building materials, and energy exhibition held in Syria's capital city, Damascus, concluded on Sunday, marking the first event of its kind since the fall of the Baath regime. The fair featured around 180 companies from Türkiye, along with 25 from China and 15 from Italy.
Metin Gozuacik, a Turkish participant, said they remain hopeful about Syria's future. “Everyone is doing their best. They really like our country. The fair has been a success,” he told Anadolu Agency.
He emphasized that the high turnout was meaningful despite the country’s current conditions. “This level of participation is quite significant under the circumstances,” he added.
Fuat Egeaslan, from the energy sector, said he was pleased to showcase products at such a key moment. “It will take time for the new Syria to stabilize, but we must use that time productively,” he said. “We’ve reconnected with our good neighbors.”
Egeaslan added that his team continues to share technical expertise with both Syrian and international visitors.
Halit Takva, one of the visitors, said the event lacked sufficient promotion and foreign participation, but still offered hope. “I learned about the fair late and didn’t see many foreign exhibitors. Still, we are optimistic. We saw unexpected things and hope for development in construction and industry.”
Another visitor, Hala al-Khalaf, noted the variety of products. “This was a good experience. Compared to previous fairs, I saw more new equipment. I hope business activity increases in the new Syria,” she said.
