Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar met Thursday with his counterparts from Iraq, Moldova, Niger, Syria, and Libya on the sidelines of the Istanbul Natural Resources Summit (INRES 2025).
Minister Bayraktar said the meetings focused on exploring opportunities in energy production, infrastructure, and regional stability, in his post on X.
During his meeting with Iraq’s Deputy Prime Minister and Oil Minister Hayyan Abdulghani, Bayraktar noted that the two sides reviewed ongoing projects in oil and natural gas.
“We discussed new steps to advance our cooperation, especially in production, transmission, and trade,” he said, emphasizing a joint objective to strengthen Türkiye–Iraq energy ties based on mutual benefit and regional stability.
Bayraktar also met with Moldova’s Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu, with the talks focusing on energy supply security and the development of energy and natural gas infrastructure.
He underlined the potential for cooperation in various areas, particularly renewable energy and smart grid technologies. Türkiye aims to support Moldova’s energy transition through joint projects based on knowledge and experience sharing, Bayraktar said.
In his meeting with Niger’s Minister of Mines Ousmane Abarchi, Bayraktar said the two discussed in detail the memorandum of understanding signed last year.
“We value sustainable and strategic partnerships in Africa that are built on mutual gain,” he noted, adding that Türkiye reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing joint projects, technology transfers, and investment initiatives with Niger. In September 2024, Türkiye signed a memorandum of understanding with Niger to cooperate on mineral exploration and mining operations.
Bayraktar described his talks with Syrian Energy Minister Muhammad al-Bashir as productive, stressing Türkiye’s readiness to contribute to Syria’s post-conflict reconstruction.
“We examined opportunities for technical support and cooperation to strengthen the country’s electricity and natural gas infrastructure,” he said. “Türkiye is committed to constructive partnerships that enhance regional stability and help meet the basic energy needs of the Syrian people.”
Lastly, Bayraktar met with Libya’s Minister of Industry and Minerals Ahmed Ali Abu Hissa. The two explored opportunities for deeper cooperation in mining, industrial infrastructure, technology transfer, and investment.
Bayraktar stated that Türkiye is ready to support the sustainable development of Libya’s underground resources and to partner in the country’s broader economic recovery.
