Turkish exporters will visit Brazil and Chile in November under the Trade Ministry’s "Distant Countries Strategy" to hold direct meetings with local importers.

The initiative, coordinated by the Trade Ministry along with the Turkish Exporters Assembly and the Aegean Exporters’ Associations, aims to narrow Türkiye’s $3 billion trade deficit with Brazil and lift bilateral trade with Chile above $1 billion by boosting exports across multiple sectors.

Associations will travel to Sao Paulo and Santiago between November 16 and 21, 2025, to hold face-to-face meetings with local importers.

Balancing trade with Brazil

Jak Eskinazi, Coordinator Chair of the Aegean Exporters’ Associations, underlined the scale of the two markets, which together have a population of 235 million and a combined gross domestic product (GDP) of $2.5 trillion.

He noted that Türkiye’s exports to Brazil stand at around $1 billion, compared with imports of $3.9 billion. This leaves a trade deficit of nearly $3 billion.

Key Turkish exports included carbonates ($82 million), motor vehicle parts ($66 million), and fresh and dried fruit and vegetables ($56 million). Brazil’s main shipments to Türkiye were soybeans ($1.06 billion), iron ore ($567 million) and cotton ($473 million).

Eskinazi said the goal is to increase exports to Brazil and achieve a more balanced trade relationship.

He emphasized that initiatives such as trade delegations and cooperation with local professional organizations are expected to boost bilateral commercial volume.

Expanding business with Chile

Türkiye exported $360 million worth of goods to Chile in 2024, while imports totaled $123 million.

Eskinazi recalled that bilateral trade reached $978 million in 2021 but has since declined.

He stated that the objective is to halt this decline and raise the trade volume above $1 billion by leveraging Türkiye’s advantageous position in the Chilean market.

Major exports included iron and steel bars ($36.2 million), tugboats and pushers ($21.4 million), and non-alloy steel profiles ($17.9 million).

Imports from Chile centered on nuts ($24.7 million), animal oils and fats ($22.5 million), and nitrites and nitrates ($16.5 million).

The delegation is open to all sectors, and Eskinazi expressed expectations of strong participation from Turkish exporters.
