Turkish renewable energy firm YEO Technology acquired 15 project companies in Romania through its Netherlands-registered subsidiary, Defic Globe, with a €220 million ($258.42 million) investment as part of its effort to expand its renewable energy portfolio in the country.
The projects collectively represent 219 megawatts (MW) of capacity and include battery energy storage systems (BESS) with a total potential of 320 megawatt-hours (MWh).
According to reports from Profit.ro and Romanian Insider, the company—which also operates in Türkiye, Romania, Italy, and Ukraine—is partnered with Emsolt Investments.
Recently, Defic Globe completed the Caracal Solar Power Plant, its first large-scale project in Romania under the YEO umbrella. The solar facility has an installed capacity of 18 megawatt-peak (MWp) and is expected to generate approximately 26 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity annually.
In addition to completed projects, the company is currently constructing solar power plants in Bobicesti, located in Olt County. The development has a total planned capacity of 21.3 MWp and is expected to become operational in the second quarter of 2025. Once completed, the plants are projected to produce around 34,400 MWh of electricity each year.
Defic Globe has also entered into a partnership with Shanghai Electric Power Co., Ltd. to co-develop two additional solar energy projects in Romania, with a combined planned capacity of 129 MWp. These upcoming projects are not part of the recent 15-company acquisition and represent a separate stream of development activity in the region.
The company stated that its efforts align with Romania’s broader push toward renewable energy and the European Union’s climate goals. According to Defic Globe, these initiatives aim to support the country’s energy transition through continued investment in solar generation and energy storage infrastructure.
