Türkiye will engage in international collaboration to accelerate high-quality and advanced research in quantum technologies through the QuantERA 2025 Call program.

According to information obtained by the state-run Anadolu Agency (AA) correspondent from the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TUBITAK), the QuantERA III Consortium has launched the "QuantERA 2025 Call" for international research projects in quantum technologies.

The consortium aims to increase cross-border cooperation in quantum technologies and accelerate breakthrough research and advanced engineering activities through this initiative.

2 main research areas identified

Project proposals must align with one of two topics determined under the QuantERA 2025 Call scope: "Quantum phenomena and resources" and "Applied quantum science."

Projects supported under both topics must cover one or more areas, including quantum communication, quantum simulation, quantum computing, quantum sensing and metrology, and general quantum science.

Project consortiums will consist of at least three eligible partners from at least three countries officially participating in the initiative.

Turkish researchers will be supported through the "Support Program for Increasing Capacity to Benefit from International Research Funds and Participation in International R&D Collaborations."

To facilitate the formation of research consortiums, applicants have been provided with a Partner Search Tool that can be used by projects seeking partners and partners seeking projects.

An online webinar will be organized by the QuantERA Coordinator and Call Secretariat on Oct. 8 to answer questions related to the topic. Registration information for the webinar will soon be made available on the QuantERA international call page.

Detailed financial support structure

Institutional share upper limits will be added to the project budget at 50% of the requested contribution and a maximum of ₺650,000 ($15,676), excluding TUBITAK project incentive bonus and support provided for domestic and international travel for activities other than domestic field studies.

Up to ₺116,000 can be requested for travel to participate in scientific meetings such as domestic/international congresses and conferences, and up to ₺195,000 for travel related to activities such as working visits and networking among project partners, totaling up to ₺311,000 per executing institution.

Support items include many areas, from personnel expenses to consulting services, from machinery and equipment purchases to financial advisory services.

Higher education institutions, training and research hospitals and public institutions will receive 100% support on their accepted budgets. Large-scale private organizations will receive 60% support and SMEs will receive 75% support on their accepted budgets.

The initiative will provide support to higher education institutions under the Higher Education Law, training and research hospitals, public institutions and organizations, and capital companies registered in Türkiye that create value at the firm level, regardless of sector and size and possess commercial registry certificates.

Applications will not be accepted from foundations, associations and their economic enterprises, cooperatives, unions, sole proprietorships and ordinary partnerships.
