Türkiye exported anchovy to 22 countries in the first nine months of 2026, with shipments rising 80% in volume and 20% in value from a year earlier, according to figures compiled by Anadolu Agency from Eastern Black Sea Exporters’ Association (DKIB) data.
Export volume climbed to 4,062 tons from 2,259 tons in the same period of 2025. Export revenue rose to $13.62 million from $11.31 million.
Anchovy is also shipped abroad as a processed product.
Belgium, France and Ukraine generated the strongest demand over the first nine months, buying $3,898,479, $3,404,163 and $2,027,892 worth of anchovy, respectively.
Australia, Portugal, Qatar and Iraq, which were absent from the buyers’ list in the same period last year, joined it this year.
Hasan Kuzuoglu, head of the DKIB Aquatic Products Sector Committee, told Anadolu Agency that the sector expects the upward trend to continue through the rest of the year.
Kuzuoglu called the rise in quantity especially welcome for the sector. “We recorded increases in both volume and value in anchovy exports compared with the same period last year. We also expect demand in our existing markets to continue in the last quarter of the year and new markets to contribute to exports,” he said.
The number of destination countries grows every year, Kuzuoglu noted, adding that interest from regions beyond Europe is important for the industry.
He said the search for new buyers continues. “Promoting our product, increasing market diversity and developing value-added processed product exports are among our priorities. We also expect to see the results of promotion and commercial contact efforts to help our exporters take a larger share in different countries’ markets in the coming months,” he added.
Anchovy holds an important place in Türkiye’s seafood exports, Kuzuoglu stressed, adding that the sector aims to raise its share in existing markets and ship regularly to new countries.
