Türkiye and China have signed a new memorandum of understanding in the field of civil aviation, increasing the number of weekly passenger flight rights between the two countries from 21 to 49.
Bilateral aviation talks were held in Beijing on Wednesday between Türkiye’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation and the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).
Under the newly signed memorandum, the weekly passenger flight frequency between the two nations has more than doubled.
In this context, “frequency” refers to the right of an airline to operate one round-trip flight between the two countries.
This marks the first expansion of flight rights between Türkiye and China in nearly 15 years, and it is seen as a significant step forward in aviation relations between the two countries, coinciding with broader efforts to strengthen cooperation.
Additionally, Chengdu, Xi’an, and Urumqi have been designated as new destinations for Turkish carriers, paving the way for future flights to these cities.
The expansion of Turkish carriers’ flight capacity in a strategically important and sizable market like China is expected to enhance Türkiye’s civil aviation connectivity both in Asia and globally.
