Türkiye's Competition Authority fined Adidas Sports Equipment Sales and Marketing Inc. ₺402.3 million ($9.6 million) for interfering with authorized retailers' resale prices, violating competition law.

The investigation concluded that the company, which operates in sports apparel and accessories, violated the Law on the Protection of Competition by intervening in the resale prices of its authorized sellers, according to a statement on the Competition Authority's website on Friday.

The statement said that findings obtained within the scope of the investigation revealed that the company determined the discount rates its authorized sellers could apply, the products that could be discounted, and the discount periods.

"The company, which was found to restrict price competition by setting its sellers' resale prices through these practices, was given an administrative fine of ₺402.3 million," the statement said.

"Intervention in authorized sellers' pricing policies is subject to violation on the grounds that it creates anti-competitive effects, especially in online sales channels," the statement noted.
