Türkiye's Competition Authority has decided not to open a formal investigation into Temu over allegations that the e-commerce platform interfered with merchants' pricing, bringing its preliminary review to an end while imposing administrative fines over procedural violations.
According to a statement from the Chinese company, the authority examined whether Temu violated competition law by interfering with sellers' prices on its marketplace. After completing its preliminary review, the board decided not to open a formal antitrust investigation, a company spokesperson told Türkiye Today in a written statement.
Although the pricing probe was closed, the Competition Authority penalized Temu for obstructing an on-site inspection and for failing to provide requested information within the prescribed deadline. According to a Temu spokesperson, the combined fine totaled ₺3.7 million (€78,063.45).
The authority concluded that officials were unable to carry out an inspection at Temu's Istanbul office after they could not access the premises, no company representative arrived during the visit, and the requested organizational chart was not provided despite repeated requests.
In a separate decision, the board also found that Temu did not submit requested revenue information within the required timeframe, triggering additional administrative penalties under the same law. The company later provided the requested information, but only after the deadline had passed.
A Temu spokesperson welcomed the authority's decision not to pursue a formal investigation into its pricing practices while acknowledging the procedural penalties.
"We note the Turkish Competition Authority's decision not to open a formal investigation into Temu pricing practices and officially closed the case," the spokesperson said.
Temu entered Türkiye in June 2024 and now operates in the country through its local subsidiary, Whaleco Turkey Teknoloji, which was established in 2025 and later became the platform's official importer under Türkiye's revised customs regime.
