Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar met with Iraqi Oil Minister Basim Mohammed Khudair in Baghdad on Thursday to discuss transforming the Development Road Project into a regional energy corridor, among other issues.

Writing on Türkiye's NSosyal platform, Bayraktar characterized the meeting with Khudair as productive, noting that the two sides reviewed potential avenues for cooperation in the oil and natural gas sectors.

The discussions centered primarily on the Iraq-Türkiye Crude Oil Pipeline, which serves as a major energy link between the neighboring nations.

Existing pipelines shape shared energy vision

Bayraktar said Türkiye and Iraq see the effective use of the current infrastructure, supported by new connections, as the basis of their common energy vision.

He added that both sides are working to build on this approach through the Development Road Project, which is being discussed not only as a trade and transport corridor but also as a wider energy route.

"In line with this vision, we are continuing our efforts to transform the Development Road Project not only into a trade and transport corridor, but also into a regional energy route," Bayraktar said.

Ankara seeks close coordination with Baghdad

Bayraktar also said Türkiye attaches importance to moving forward in close coordination and cooperation with Iraq's newly formed government.

He added that concrete steps taken within this framework could carry the partnership between Türkiye and Iraq to a higher level.
