Libya’s Strategic Projects Board chairman said Türkiye remains a key strategic trade and economic partner for Libya, highlighting cooperation across infrastructure, energy and development sectors.
Speaking to Anadolu Agency (AA) on the sidelines of the Libya Economy and Energy Summit, Mustafa al-Mani said Libya’s Government of National Unity is working to expand trade volume with Türkiye.
“Türkiye is one of the most important markets exporting products to us and has a strong presence in the Libyan market,” al-Mani said.
“We have partnerships with Türkiye in development and infrastructure projects.”
He said many Turkish companies have renewed previous contracts and signed new ones for infrastructure projects, including airports, roads and other developments.
“Türkiye has been and will continue to be a strategic economic and trade partner for the Libyan state,” al-Mani said.
Al-Mani recalled the 22nd session of the Türkiye–Libya Joint Economic Commission meeting held Jan. 24, co-chaired by Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar and Libyan Transport Minister Mohammed al-Shuhubi.
He said the meeting focused on strengthening economic partnerships and addressing issues unresolved for nearly two decades.
Al-Mani said Libya launched a public tender for oil and natural gas exploration in November 2025, the first such tender in 17 years, noting that Turkish companies are among the most prominent applicants.
“We announced the launch of the tender in the oil and gas sector last year, and Turkish companies are among the leading applicants,” he said, adding that results are expected within four weeks.
Al-Mani said Libya is no longer considered a high-risk market and now offers real investment opportunities across multiple sectors.
He said Libya aims to raise oil production to 1.6 million barrels per day in the short term and 2 million barrels per day in the medium term.
“In addition to conventional energy, we aim to achieve energy diversification through renewable energy,” al-Mani said, describing this as an opportunity for Turkish companies investing in the renewable energy sector.
Al-Mani said Libya remains open to international partnerships and expressed pride in cooperation with Türkiye.
“We are proud of our long-standing partnership with Türkiye,” he said. “Turkish contractors and companies implement many projects with us every day, and we are committed to supporting and further developing these partnerships.”
