Türkiye aims to set a new record in automotive exports next year, targeting $43.7 billion as it seeks to expand its presence in global markets and accelerate its green and digital transformation, according to the 2026 Presidential Annual Program.

New-generation production technologies to enhance competitiveness in the automotive and supply industries will be developed, while domestic supply and technological capacity will be strengthened across all stages from design to production. The program underlines that Türkiye will align itself with the evolving global mobility landscape by adapting to green and digital transitions in the automotive sector.

Authorities will monitor progress in key initiatives and projects outlined in the Mobility Vehicles and Technologies Roadmap, reviewing quantitative targets and updating action plans when necessary.

Under the Horizon Europe Ecomobility Project, Türkiye will establish protocols for secure communication between autonomous or connected vehicles and central stations and carry out necessary infrastructure work. Sensor and actuator data of autonomous or connected vehicles will also be obtained from standard infrastructure for evaluation studies.

Hydrogen and clean mobility technologies prioritized

Pilot manufacturing of a fuel-cell truck platform will be completed in 2026, with road tests scheduled to begin the same year. Work will continue within the Hydrogen-Based Carbon-Neutral Internal Combustion Engine Development Project, and three hydrogen fuel-cell tests will be conducted to advance hydrogen fuel-cell technologies and components.

Compliance efforts with European Union legislation will continue under type-approval regulations. TUBITAK’s National Metrology Institute will provide technical support for nationwide electric vehicle charging station inspections and work with the Turkish Standards Institution (TSE) to set national standards and ensure international compliance.

Türkiye will pursue a circular economy transition in the automotive sector as part of its green transformation goals. Seventy percent of an R&D project aimed at recovering materials from end-of-life solar panels and lithium batteries to produce new products will be completed.

Through E.U.-supported SAFELOOP and STREAMS programs, technology and production capacity will be expanded in batteries, sensors, electronic control units, displays, electric motor systems and automotive software.

Exports set to climb while reducing dependency

Education programs and curricula will be updated to meet technological needs, and private-sector initiatives supporting national competitiveness will receive backing.

Entrepreneurs working on education technologies will be supported through programs and events, while participation in international fairs will continue. Turkish educational technology standards will be set and harmonized with international standards in cooperation with TSE.

The automotive production index, projected at 126.7 by the end of this year, is expected to rise to 131.5 in 2026.

Türkiye plans to increase automotive exports while limiting imports. Export revenue is expected to reach $39.2 billion this year and rise to $43.7 billion in 2026, lifting the sector’s record export performance even higher. Automotive imports are forecast at $39.1 billion this year and are not expected to exceed $42.1 billion next year.

The sector’s share in total manufacturing exports is projected to reach 16.1% in 2026.
