Türkiye has eliminated customs duties and additional financial obligations on thousands of products imported from Qatar, according to a presidential decree published in the Official Gazette.

The measure, which amends Türkiye’s import regime, will come into effect on August 1.

Broad list of Qatari goods now duty-free

The decision covers a wide array of Qatari-origin goods, including industrial, chemical, and raw materials. Items now exempt from customs tariffs include:

  • Flax and hemp,
  • Sulfur,
  • Sand, quartz, and various stones and clay,
  • Cement,
  • LED lighting equipment,
  • Petroleum-based oils,
  • Hydrocarbons such as LPG, butane, and propane,
  • Ethylene and propylene,
  • Mineral oils and their distillation products,
  • Inorganic chemicals such as hydrogen, noble gases, and nonmetals,
  • Goods used in the chemical and related industries,
  • Metal, wood, plastic, and vegetable fibers,
  • Glass and glass-based products.

These exemptions are expected to facilitate trade flows and reduce import costs for Turkish industries reliant on such materials.

Supports Türkiye-Qatar $5B trade target

Qatar remains one of Türkiye’s most strategic economic partners in the Gulf region. As of May 2025, annual trade between the two countries totaled over $1.1 billion, while both countries have also set a medium-term trade goal of reaching $5 billion in annual volume.

By lifting tariffs on key Qatari exports, the Turkish government signals a continued commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly in sectors such as energy, construction, chemicals, and industrial manufacturing.

The tariff exemptions are part of a broader strategy to improve regional economic integration and secure essential supply chains in critical sectors.
