Türkiye exported 68,737 tons of cherries between Jan. 1 and Aug. 10, generating $235 million in revenue, according to the Aegean Exporters’ Associations (EIB).
In the same period last year, Türkiye earned $47.728 million from the export of 6,040 tons of cherries.
This year’s performance marked an 11-fold increase in export volume and a fourfold rise in foreign exchange earnings compared with the same period of 2025.
Cengiz Balik, head of the Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association, said Türkiye ranks first in the world in cherry production and among the top three or four countries in exports.
Balik said cherry production was negatively affected in 2025 by frost during the flowering period, causing a sharp decline in exports last year.
He said the sector achieved a strong recovery this year.
“In the remaining period of 2026, we generated $235 million in foreign exchange revenue from cherry exports exceeding 68,000 tons,” Balik said.
“Compared with the same period last year, we recorded an approximately 11-fold increase in export volume and a fourfold increase in export value,” he added.
Balik said Türkiye also increased market diversity in cherry exports.
While Türkiye exported cherries to 34 countries in 2025, the number of export markets rose to 52 this year.
By country, cherry exports reached $74 million to Germany, $67.5 million to Russia, $29 million to Poland and $26.5 million to Iraq.
Balik said the sector aims to reach $250 million in cherry exports in 2027 if there are no adverse climate conditions.
