Turkish solar panel maker CW Energy has kicked off feasibility, investment and establishment studies for a solar panel manufacturing facility in the United States with an annual production capacity of 1 gigawatt (GW).
According to a company disclosure on Tuesday, the board decided to carry out the project through CW Energy USA Inc., the company’s wholly owned U.S. subsidiary.
As part of the planned investment, CW Energy will work on selecting the plant’s location, assessing investment incentives and support mechanisms, reviewing financing alternatives, and defining technical and operational requirements, the statement said.
The company will also work through the permitting and establishment processes required to move the project forward. It has not yet disclosed a specific U.S. location or investment amount, adding that any concrete developments requiring public disclosure will be announced in line with applicable capital markets legislation.
The investment would make CW Energy the latest Turkish solar-panel manufacturer to establish production in the country, following Elin Energy, which began manufacturing modules at a Texas facility in 2024 with a 1 GW annual capacity.
CW Energy currently has 1.8 GW of annual photovoltaic solar panel production capacity in Türkiye, while its 100%-owned CW Solar Cell has 1.2 GW of annual solar cell production capacity, according to its second-quarter earnings report.
The company also has an aluminum frame facility with 1,000 tons of monthly production capacity. Most of that output is used for its own solar panels, while the remainder is exported, including to the U.S.
CW Energy USA Inc. was established in 2023 and currently operates in solar panel sales, turnkey solar installations, engineering, maintenance, and equipment supply.
The planned 1 GW facility would add to the 70.1 GW of solar-panel manufacturing capacity currently in the U.S., according to SEIA and Enerdata data cited in the same report.
