Türkiye’s hazelnut export revenue rose 17% year-on-year to $990.9 million in the first four months of 2026 despite a 31% drop in shipment volumes to 71,315 tons, as higher prices offset lower production.

The average export value per kilogram jumped from $8.19 to $13.9 as supply shortages deepened after one of the worst frost and drought disasters in years severely damaged production across Türkiye in 2025.

Poland records highest unit price

Türkiye exported hazelnuts to 104 countries in the first four months of the year, with Germany, Italy, France, Poland and Brazil emerging as the biggest buyers.

Germany remained the top market, with exports reaching $274.1 million. Even though shipment volumes to the country fell 14% to 19,062 tons, export revenue jumped 54% as prices climbed.

Exports to Italy, meanwhile, dropped 51% in volume and 15% in value.

Poland recorded the highest average export price among major destinations at $15.94 per kilogram, followed by Brazil at $15.47.

Weather shock hits Türkiye’s hazelnut output

Türkiye remains the world’s leading hazelnut supplier, accounting for roughly 70% of the global annual production, with output typically ranging between 700,000 and 800,000 tons and exports averaging 300,000 to 400,000 tons annually.

However, severe weather disasters in 2025 hit producers hard, cutting yields by 40% and reducing production to 441,000 tons from 717,000 tons in 2024, while exports declined 26.4% to 238,704 tons from 324,438 tons.

According to initial estimates by sector representatives, hazelnut production is expected to recover to 829,239 tons in the 2026-2027 season.
