Türkiye-based floating power company Karpowership will send a 250-megawatt powership and a floating LNG terminal vessel to Mexico under a three-year agreement with the country’s independent grid operator CENACE, the company announced on Wednesday.

Under the agreement, the company will deploy its integrated LNG-to-power model in Mexico, with the floating power plant and LNG support vessel expected to arrive in the coming weeks. Commercial operations are set to begin shortly afterward in coordination with federal and state authorities.

Karpowership said the project will help provide a more stable and uninterrupted electricity supply model for the Yucatan Peninsula during periods of peak consumption.

Mexico joins Karpowership’s Americas network

Karadeniz Holding Vice Chairperson Zeynep Harezi Yilmaz said Mexico has become a strategic market for the company’s regional ambitions.

"We have been successfully operating our integrated LNG-to-power model globally, from Brazil to Senegal," Yılmaz noted. "Mexico is now the latest global market where we are introducing this high-tech and flexible energy model."

She described the project as an important milestone for the company’s growth plans across the Americas, adding that Mexico’s rising energy demand and economic scale make the country a key part of Karpowership’s portfolio.

"With Mexico joining this strong operational network, we are further reinforcing our presence across the Americas," Yilmaz remarked. "This agreement is also a clear sign of our long-term and strategic investment commitment in the region."

Fleet of 40+ powerships tops 8,000 MW

Karpowership operates the world’s largest floating power plant fleet, with more than 40 powerships and over 8,000 MW of installed capacity spanning Africa, Latin America, Asia and the Middle East.

The company develops, builds and operates floating power plants that generate electricity using LNG, natural gas and liquid fuels, offering fast-track energy solutions to countries facing supply shortages, grid instability or rising peak demand.

Its powership fleet, with capacities ranging from 30 MW to 470 MW, can be deployed in a relatively short period compared to conventional land-based plants and supplies electricity under long-term power purchase and rental agreements.

Beyond electricity generation, Karpowership also provides integrated LNG-to-power infrastructure, including floating storage and regasification solutions that allow countries to import and use natural gas without building large onshore terminals.
