Bookings by Russian families for September holidays in Türkiye have fallen by almost 50% compared with last year, according to data from OneTwoTrip, one of Russia’s largest online booking platforms.
The drop pushed Türkiye from first place in 2024 to fourth this year, with its share of bookings slipping to 6.1%.
As reported by turkrus.com, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) emerged as the leading destination, attracting 14.3% of September bookings from Russian families, a seven-and-a-half-fold increase from the previous year. Kazakhstan appeared in the rankings for the first time, claiming second place with a 10.2% share. Armenia followed with 8.2%, reflecting a 4.3-fold rise in demand.
Türkiye, once the dominant choice, was overtaken by these destinations and now ranks just ahead of Thailand, which secured 6% of bookings, up 58% year-over-year. Traditional favorites such as Georgia, Italy, and Spain no longer featured in the top five.
Within Russia, Adler on the Black Sea coast topped domestic family holiday choices with 19.6% of bookings, a 50% increase compared with last year. St. Petersburg followed with 9.4%, while Esto-Sadok held 7.2%. Moscow accounted for 5.1%, reflecting a 41% decline, and Makhachkala remained steady at 4.3%.
Resorts such as Loo, Lazarevskoye, and Anapa, which had been popular in 2024, did not appear in this year’s leading destinations.
Overall, family holidays made up 10.8% of hotel bookings in early September, up 5% from the previous year. International reservations represented 26.2% of the total, a 13% annual increase.
Despite the sharp fall in September bookings, Türkiye continued to attract the largest number of Russian visitors overall during the first half of the year. A total of 2.6 million Russians traveled to Türkiye between January and June, representing 12% of all foreign arrivals.
In hotel stays, however, Russians were surpassed by German tourists. Türkiye hosted 2.3 million Russian guests during the period, compared with 3.08 million German visitors.
