Türkiye’s upcoming 5G connectivity infrastructure will form the backbone of its digital ecosystem and help transform the country into a global technology hub, Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu said Wednesday.
“5G is not just a faster connection but also the foundation of a smarter, more reliable digital ecosystem,” Uraloglu told Anadolu Agency.
Preparations to make 5G available nationwide have reached their final stage, with a tender scheduled for Oct. 16 in Ankara, he said.
Türkiye is not only investing in 5G but also laying the groundwork for 6G development, with several patents already acquired, the minister added. “We’re not just working on 5G but also preparing for beyond—we will continue to work with all our institutions and advance our country in communications technology.”
Uraloglu emphasized that the government will prioritize domestic production in building the new infrastructure.
“Our ‘End-to-End National 5G Project’ will produce base stations and core network components within Türkiye,” he said. “There will be a requirement to use up to 60% domestically produced content and up to 30% homegrown communications products, in a bid to reduce foreign dependence and contribute to the economy’s current account balance.”
The minister said 5G’s high data speeds, low latency and wide connection capacity would not only improve user experience but also drive innovation in smart cities, “Industry 4.0,” health care and self-driving vehicles.
“The effective and conscious use of this technology will bring tremendous benefits to society as a whole and support sustainable development goals,” he said.
With 5G, Türkiye will “enter a new era that breaks down barriers in every field, from education to health care and industry to entertainment, while enabling instant data communication with low latency,” Uraloglu said.
