U.K.-based telecom titan Vodafone’s Türkiye subsidiary has announced that its total investment in the country has exceeded ₺480 billion ($11.23 billion) in real terms, making it one of the largest foreign direct investment (FDI) commitments in the Turkish market.

The company emphasized its continued focus on long-term value creation and technological advancement ahead of its 20th anniversary in 2026, with particular emphasis on launching 5G services by that year.

Vodafone entered the Turkish market in 2006 through the acquisition of local operator Telsim in a deal valued at $4.5 billion.

Vodafone Türkiye targets 2026 as milestone year for 5G rollout

Vodafone Türkiye CEO Engin Aksoy said the company’s contribution to Türkiye’s digital transformation remains a strategic priority, stressing that the company has earmarked 2026 as its "5G year," and plans to leverage its global capabilities, robust infrastructure, and local market insights to ensure a smooth customer experience during the rollout.

Aksoy stressed that a smooth transition to 5G requires a well-structured fixed broadband policy and equal access to infrastructure, which he described as critical to sector-wide progress.

Vodafone Türkiye had purchased two spectrum packages in the 5G tender held in October, with a total bid of $627 million.

$100M data center to open in Izmir in early 2026

As part of its digital ecosystem expansion, Vodafone Türkiye is preparing to launch a large-scale data center in Izmir in partnership with UAE-based DAMAC Digital. The facility, which will represent a total investment of $100 million, is scheduled to begin operations in the first quarter of 2026.

Aksoy described data centers as essential to accelerating digital transformation through 5G, citing their role in managing high volumes of real-time data and enabling advanced services for businesses and consumers alike.

He noted that Türkiye became a global research and development hub for the Vodafone Group in 2025, when the company relocated its open-air test and innovation environment from Spain to Istanbul, where it is now trialing next-generation mobile solutions to advance 5G and future 6G networks.

Between April and September 2025, Vodafone Türkiye reported service revenues of ₺64.8 billion ($1.51 billion) and earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) of ₺23.7 billion. The company serves 25.5 million mobile subscribers and 1.4 million fixed broadband users. It also operates a broad ecosystem of suppliers and partners, with an estimated ₺50 billion in procurement volume and approximately 36,000 indirect jobs supported across its network.

The company will also begin offering fiber internet to 1.3 million additional households next month under a new infrastructure deal with state cable operator Turksat, aiming to reach 23.7 million homes, including shared networks, and targeting the widest fiber coverage in the country.
